A professional dancer from Mozambique, Carlos has danced with the National Ballet of Mozambique, the National Dance and Singing Company, and with the Hodi Maputo Afro-Swing company. Currently, he dances and teaches traditional dances from Mozambique and swing and afro-swing dances in Geneva, Europe and at international festivals.
The traditional dances of Mozambique are very rhythmic and powerful, they were used in particular as a form of cultural resistance during Portuguese colonialism.
When Carlos discovered swing dances, he immediately loved these Afro-American dances which mix African and European origins to express all the richness of jazz music. He likes to bring roots jazz back to its roots, mixing it with traditional dances from Mozambique.
For Carlos, dance is the expression of music and its moving rhythms and it is all this energy that he transmits on stage and in his classes.

18. 6. 2022 – 2. Birthday of Jazz Monkeys

Jazz Monkeys is celebrating its 2nd birthday and this time we have prepared a weekend full of dancing for you. What awaits you? Lessons with international lecturer Carlos Machava, who is originally from Mozambique and runs a dance school in Geneva. You can also look forward to a great combination of our well-known lecturers Marek and Daria, who have prepared for you non-traditional solo jazz lessons, 3 dance parties, 2 bands and a total of 4 hours of workshops.

11:00 – 12:00 – Chest Movements!

14:00 – 16:00 –  How to enjoy solo jazz?

20:00 – 22:00 – Concert of Jazz Today band with Markata Komarová

SUNDAY:

16:00 – 19:00 – Concert with Lam Trio Band
